Are You Empty?

Encouragement for moms by Lisa Ware

Hello, Mama!
You know when you’re empty, really empty. When you’ve given every last bit of yourself and you’ve done all you can and it still feels lacking. Maybe the sink is still full of dishes, or you didn’t cuddle the kids today as much as you wish you had. Maybe you haven’t opened your Bible in weeks, or you don’t know how to make the groceries last until the next payday.
I get it. I’ve been there too.
This is a hard season—a season when others have stepped up to help, to stand in the gaps, to offer love and provision in a time of need. But even with all the support and supernatural provision, there can still be an emptiness. It lingers even when I’ve poured every last drop out and it still doesn’t feel like it’s enough.
“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Matthew 11:28–30 (NASB)
In this season, I’m learning what it means to trust God for my daily bread—not just food on the table, but soul-sustenance. I need the Holy Spirit to fill me up every single day. Sunday morning isn’t enough. That one Bible study isn’t enough.
I need His Spirit breathing, living, moving, and whispering in my heart!
I come to Him in my brokenness, in my lack, and in my emptiness. He’s waiting and He’s wooing my heart to Himself.
Do I still fail to hear Him speaking? Yes.
Do I still lose my patience with my kids sometimes? Yes, I did today.
Will I be perfect tomorrow? No.
Will He be waiting for me to come to Him and rest in His love? Always!
So here I raise my empty cup and ask Him alone to fill me up again and to be the wellspring in me that will never run dry. I’m still pondering that concept with Him. But here I am laid down at His feet in awe of how He loves me.
Will you come to His feet with your emptiness, with your lack, and with your need, and let Him fill you up? I sure hope so. He’s the only one who can sustain us when motherhood is hard.
Jesus answered and said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again; but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.” John 4:13–14 (NASB)
Today, I pray for you to be refreshed in Him. He can do it the moment you say a quick prayer for help. He does it time and time again for me. And I know He will for you too!
Blessings from my family to yours,
Lisa

As an empty-nester, who reminders motherhood all to well; you have spoken to my heart. I love the verses, 2 of my favorites.
I substituted a word that describes my circumstances. Your message still applied beautifully to my season, (which oddly parallels yours). God has a wonderful sense of humor..
